Cabbage Vadai

Hi

It is raining again in Chennai and weather is quite cool or rather sometimes cold in the late evenings. To warm up i wanted a hot cup of coffee and something to munch. I remembered this snack which was my father's favorite .My mom used to cook this in a jiffy and was so so delicious.Tried to recreate her vadai!!!

INGREDIENTS

Black gram dhal 1 cup

Rice flour 2 tbsp

Cabbage( cut very finely) 1/2 cup or more

Green chillies 2 (very finely cut)

Coriander( very finely cut) 2 tbsp

Asafoetida a pinch

Oil for deep frying

Salt to taste

PREPARATION

Soak the dhal in water for 45 minutes or more

Cut the cabbage , chillies and coriander very finely

Grind the soaked dhal into a very smooth paste without any water. If need be add very little water, else it will turn out soggy

Now add everything together with the necessary salt

Heat a pan with the oil.

When the oil has heated up well, flatten small balls of this dough in your palm, make a hole at the center and slide each of this in the hot oil, taking care not to splash the hot oil.(Be very careful while frying). Add few at a time

Turn it once after few minutes

When golden brown, remove it and drain it to remove the excess oil

Serve hot with coconut chutney

Thank you MA. Everyone here loved it.
