Broken wheat BisiBele Baath

I love Bisi Bele Baath...yummmm..the flavour is so good..i love to cook this often but "I CAN'T"...:-(....My daughter hates this:-(...I wonder how some one can hate this....Anyway I had to find a way for this problem, and tried replacing Broken Wheat for rice and guess what....I was a miracle....she asks for more:-).....and the story goes that....This is on her lunch menu once in a fortnight:-)
INGREDIENTS
Broken Wheat 1 1/2 cups

Red gram dhal/ Tuvar dhal 1/2 cup

Onion 1

Green Brinjal 4

Capsicum 1

Fresh peas 1/4 cup

Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp

Chilli powder 1/2 tsp(optional)

Bisi bele baath powder/sambar powder 3 tsps

Tamarind a small marble sized

Oil 1tbsp

Curry leaves few

Coriander leaves 1 tbsp

Mustard 1 tsp

Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp

Salt to taste
PREPARATION

Soak tamarind in enough water for 30 minutes. Now Squeeze it and keep it aside

Was the broken wheat and the dhal together. Drain and keep it aside

Cut all the vegetables into small cubes

Heat a cooker/ pressure pan with the oil. Now add the mustard seeds. When it crackles add the cumin and then comes onion. When the onion becomes transparent add all the other vegetables. Mix well and continue cooking.

Now add the turmeric powder and chilli powder. Pour the tamarind extract.

Add salt and let it boil till the raw smell of the tamarind goes away.Takes about 5 minutes in medium flame.

To this add the washed broken wheat dhal mixture and mix well

Sprinkle the baath powder/ sambar powder and mix well.

To enhance the favour add the curry and coriander leaves.

Pour 3 cups of water , close the cooker with the lid. and cook till 4 whistles.

When it has cooled down open the lid carefully, mix well and serve with a spoon of hot desi ghee on it:-)

So here goes my today's menu linked to Blogging Marathon#10 by Srivalli as this
