Dal Maharani

For the fifth day in a row I am cooking dal!!!!Thank you Valli....if not for the Blogging Marathon, I wouldn't have done this.
The name of this dal is a little intriguing..don't you think so?..Is it that some maharani liked it????well whatever may be the cause of this nomenclature, I loved preparing this easy and tasty dal.
INGREDIENTS
Split black gram with skin 1 cup
Onion 1
Tomatoes 2
Green chillies 3
Ginger 1/2" piece
Garlic 1 clove
Red chilli powder 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Garam masala 1 tsp
Oil 2 tsp
Kasuri Methi 2 tsp(optional)
Salt to taste
PREPARATION
Clean, wash and soak the dal in water for 1/2 hour.
Cut the ginger and garlic into very into bits
Slice the onions and cut the tomatoes into small pieces
Cook the dal in a pressure cooker with ginger, garlic and turmeric powder upto 3-4 whistles. It should cook very well
Heat oil in a pan and saute onion till it turns transparent.
Next add the finely cut chillies and cook for 1 minute.
You can put the cut tomato pieces in this and mix well. Cook till it turns mushy
Add chilli powder and garam masala, mix well
Now add the cooked dal and salt to this, mix well and cook in a low flame till everything comes together. I add kasuri methi at this point and cook for 1 more minute which is optional
Serve hot with rotis/chapathi
